Streamline your summer makeup routine

June 25, 2012

The days are getting longer and you’d think we’d have more time on our hands to get things done, but the opposite seems to be true. At least that’s the way it goes for me. I think that the warmer weather just calls to me. It says things like, “Ignore the laundry; it’ll get done later,” and, “Why would you wash the dishes when you could sit out on this lawn chair and relax?” This time of year comes with so many extra activities that there is even less time to get the basics done, including putting on makeup.

As someone who wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without makeup, there’s no way I would cut makeup application out of my daily routine completely. However, there are lots of sunny days, when I want to get ready in a hurry and I like to have a trimmed down version of my makeup routine so that I can get out the door fast. If you’re looking for a simpler, lightened-up look for summer, try some of these tricks.

A great way to save time is to combine steps. Swapping  your foundation and sunscreen for a  new BB creams, like Hydroxatone Anti-aging BB Cream – with SPF 40! Ridding yourself of sunscreen/moisturizer/foundation routine will save time and give you a fresher appearance. If you choose a product with some good coverage you can even dab it on as concealer. Plus, when you’re being hustled out the door, you can say, “I just have to put on my sunscreen.”  Who’s going to argue with that?

To give your cheeks and lips a wash of healthy color, opt for a lip and cheek stain like Sephora Lush Flush Lip & Cheek Stain. All you have to do is dab a little on and blend. This type of product will give you a pretty flush without looking overly made-up. If you want to dress up your lips a bit more you can easily add some gloss or lip balm over the color (even better – you can do this on the go).

To finish, add a touch of eyeliner and mascara, or just mascara if you want to go ultra casual, and you are ready to go. If you are going to be around water then choose waterproof formulas like Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Flared Waterproof and Stila Stay all Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner so everything stays in place.

To me, warm weather makeup is all about creating a cleaned up version of my natural self. I want it to look like I’m wearing little to no makeup, but have people amazed that I still look so stunningly beautiful (that’s the goal anyways). It’s also great to feel like you have less on your skin when the weather’s hot.

Helpful post.  Setting aside exactly what makeup you want to apply (depending on the time of year) can be beneficial to those who haven’t a clue how to go about putting on the right products.  Great read.
